Staack Energy

Stack
Biomass.

Each year, Staack Energy receives and processes recycled creosote-treated railroad ties (CTRTs). Through a specialized grinding and sizing process, we convert CTRTs into Stack Biomass — a reliable, sustainable alternative fuel designed for use in industrial boilers and kilns.

The final chip size is custom-engineered to meet end-user specifications. The product can be delivered as a standalone fuel or preblended/comingled with primary, post-industrial, or other alternative fuels. As both fuel producers and transportation professionals, Staack Energy delivers a certifiable chain-of-custody logistics solution from railroad property, through our production terminals, directly to your boiler or kiln.

— Why Stack Biomass

Advantages
& values.

A-01

Sustainable Supply

Railroad tie replacements have grown steadily since the 1980s, ensuring a consistent CTRT supply for decades to come.

A-02

Regulatory Compliance

Classified by the EPA as a Categorical Non-Waste Fuel.

A-03

Emissions Benefits

Demonstrated reductions in NOx, SOx, VOCs, chlorine and mercury compared to most coals.

A-04

High Heat Value

Low-moisture product with higher BTU output than woody biomass and a BTU content comparable to many coal sources.

A-05

Environmental Value

Considered a renewable fuel with zero CO₂ intensity under carbon intensity calculations.
